My Favorite Car is the Bookmobile!!

New Update: This to-read list is stressing me out, not to mention that it's not any fun. I don't really like non-fiction, which is why there are so many on this list; they're all the books I've started and keep putting down! So I've decided, because I can, to change my list. I returned the library books that just weren't getting read, and I'm not going to read some on this list. I'm going to read books I actually want to read. I'm not in college; I don't have to read books that don't appeal to me! There are far too many great ones out there to stick with a list just because I feel obligated. (Not that these weren't great; they just weren't what I wanted to read right now.)

Update: I took my aunt Barb's advice and actually chose one book and stuck at it until I finished it. There wasn't much left to read in my friend Lisa's book, so I read it tonight after the kids were in bed and my husband was watching TV. Finally something is crossed off my to-do list!

Katrina at Callipider Days has kicked off "Fall into Reading," which couldn't be any more up my alley! (Well, it could, but only if it were called, "Fall into Reading While Drinking Your Diet Coke.") I've mentioned before my love affair with reading; I'd choose a good book over shopping, chocolate, or even being skinny! (Well, on second thought, that skinny business does sound good . . .) I couldn't even begin to pick a favorite book, and when you see my list of books for this fall, you'll see what I mean:

I'm currently reading:
Twelve Baskets of Crumbs, by Elisabeth Elliot (re-reading this one)
The Ragamuffin Gospel, by Brennan Manning
Disappointment with God, by Philip Yancey
Taking Care of the Me in Mommy, by Lisa Whelchel
The Mommy Manual, by Barbara Curtis
Shepherding a Child's Heart, by Ted Tripp
Lies Women Believe, by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Abraham Lincoln, by Carl Sandburg Returned
A Charlotte Mason Manual, by Catherine Levinson
Home Education, by Charlotte Mason On the Back Burner
Quo Vadis, by Henryk Sienkiewicz (I've been "currently" reading this for a long, long time; I can't seem to keep at it long enough to actually finish it, but I refuse to give up!) On the Back Burner, again!

In my nightstand (next up) are the following:
Marty's Song, by Ted Dekker
The Shunning, by Beverly Lewis
Breaking the Da Vinci Code, by Darrell L. Bock, Ph.D. On the Back Burner
Where is God When it Hurts?, by Philip Yancey On the Back Burner
Your God is Too Small, by J.B. Phillips
Heal My Heart, Lord, by Emilie Barnes
A Special Kind of Love, by Susan Titus Osborn and Janet Lynn Mitchell
How to Read a Book, by Mortimer J. Adler and Charles Van Doren Returned (I do, after all, already know how to read!)
A Philosophy of Education, by Charlotte Mason

Caiden and I are reading:
Further Adventures of Peter Rabbit, by Beatrix Potter
History Stories for Children, by Dr. John W. Wayland
Leading Little Ones to God, by Marian M. Schoolland
The Oxford Book of Children's Verse, by Iona & Peter Opie
James Herriot's Treasury for Children
A Child's Book of Character Building, Book 1, by Ron & Rebekah Coriell
MaMa Goose, collection by Edelen Wille
*We're hoping to start the Little House in the Big Woods (Laura Ingalls Wilder) books by Christmas

If you're still reading this post and haven't fallen asleep yet, let me just say that although I adore books, it makes me crazy to be reading this many books at the same time! I'm usually devouring one fiction book while slowly plugging through one non-fiction read. Somehow, I seem to have started too many books at once and am having a hard time finishing anything, but I can't pick out one to put away! It's like having 10 different credit cards: I need to find the one almost completed and finish it, then move on to the next. So Katrina's challenge is just what I need; I am pretty sure I can finish this entire list of books by December 21st (Especially if I forsake feeding my children, bathing them, cleaning my house, blogging, watching fall TV, sleeping, and eating.) Seriously, as long as I say "NO!!!" to any new books, and keep plugging away, my nightstand might be a little lighter by Christmas--just in time for books I'm sure to ask for as gifts:)

If you're a bookworm and think this challenge sounds fun, or you, like me, need a little nudge to finish what you've started, head on over to Katrina's site to link yourself to the Fall Challenge!

Happy Reading, Friends!

  3. "devouring one fiction book while slowly plugging through one non-fiction read." That tends to be my style as well. I have to "make" myself get through non-fiction, but I'm usually glad when I'm done.

  5. I read The Ragamuffin Gospel at the beginning of the summer. I liked Brennan Manning's style. The book made me think. :) I hope you enjoy it.
    Happy reading!

  6. I'm interested with what you thought of the Ragamuffin Gospel. I am wrestling with it right now in a Bible study and I recently joined the Reading Challenge. I actually am so perplexed by this book that I started a blog for myself to work through my confusion, and I would love any input!
    Have a great time reading!
